AIC Students take on International Olympiad!

Independent Schools of New Zealand would like to congratulate Auckland International College students Tony Wang and Harry Yeom on their recent success at the National Olympiad competition open to all New Zealand Secondary Schools competing in both Chemistry and Mathematics.

The selection process for Chemistry works in two parts, a first round of exams where Harry received a gold award and was placed in the top 10 percent. In the second round students were given training resources and then they sat another exam. Only the top students are selected to go onto the New Zealand camp in the April holidays. Harry was selected into the team (of four) after they were assessed in both theory and practical components.

As part of the mathematics selection Tony participated in the University of Otago Junior Mathematics Competition where 24 students were selected for the New Zealand camp. This is where Tony competed in four different Mathematic Olympiads: British Maths Olympiad 1 and 2, Australian Maths Olympiad and Asia-Pacific Maths Olympiad. The final six students are chosen based on their performance.

In July Tony will compete in the International Mathematics Olympiad in Brazil and Harry will compete in the International Chemistry Olympiad in Thailand.

Congratulations to our students!
