St Peter's, Cambridge Senior Girls National Champions in 3x3 Basketball
St Peter's, Cambridge Senior Girls 3x3 Basketball became New Zealand champions at the National 3x3 Championships in Tauranga over the weekend.
The St Peter's Senior Girls Basketball Red team of Ella Bradley, Charlisse Leger-Walker, Jayzelee Waihi and Rylee Godbold were unbeaten in the 3-day tournament and met Melville in the final with a 12-9 win.
It was an exceptional performance by the young team made up of one Year 9, one Year 10 and Two year 11 students, all the more impressive as Jayzelee Waihi sustained a wrist fracture in the last of the pool games on Friday afternoon and was unavailable to play in the final.
The 3x3 format allows a maximum of 5 players who can be subbed on during the game. With an injured player, St Peter's contested and won all its games on the day of the final with no substitutes. All three team members played a full game in the quarters, semis and final. The opposing teams, including Melville in the final, utilised their full team of 5 players.
The St Peter's Senior Girls team reclaimed this National title after being placed 3rd in the 2016 National 3x3 Championship.
The winning Red team along with the St Peter's Senior Girls Blue and the Junior Girls team, did St Peter's proud at the National Championships due their focus, commitment and disciplined performances throughout the tournament.
Our Senior Boys 3x3 team finished 11th and our Junior Boys placed 8th.
Fantastic results for St Peter's, Cambridge basketball students and staff.
