Gymnastic stars on the world stage
Queen Margaret College girls’ Georgia Crawford (Year 10) and Jayde Maguire (Year 10) have returned from Hawaii with suitcases full of medals and trophies after a 16 day trip of training, competing and sightseeing.
Following the New Zealand Gymsports National Championships held in Timaru in October 2011, both Georgia and Jayde were selected for a Level 8-10 New Zealand representative team to travel to the United States of America in January 2012. The girls recently returned from this trip where they competed as part of the New Zealand team in two gymnastics competitions achieving amazing results.
The first competition “Aloha gymfest” saw the girls up against gymnasts from USA, Hawaii, Japan, Guam, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Jayde came first overall in the 13 year old category and Georgia came third overall for the 14 year old category. Between competitions Jayde celebrated her 14th birthday, which meant that in the second competition Jayde and Georgia were both competing in the 14 year old category at “Gymnastics in Paradise”. Jayde placed first and Georgia second, while their NZ level 7 team was placed second! They also received medals for apparatus placing.
