New Deputy Principal for St Peter's School, Cambridge
Mr. Brendan Kelly has been appointed to the position of Deputy Principal at St Peter's School, Cambridge. Brendan joins St Peter’s from Ivanhoe Grammar School in Melbourne.
Ivanhoe Grammar is a leading Australian Co-educational Independent School. Brendan is currently Deputy Principal and Head of the Ridgeway Campus. The Ridgeway Campus is a school of 1200 students, Years 7-13.
At Ivanhoe, Brendan has led a number of significant initiatives. These have included a complete restructuring of the senior and middle year’s pastoral care systems, introducing an innovative personalized mentoring model, transforming a traditional careers advisory model to include a more integrated approach, reviewing curriculum frameworks and developing a school-wide data plan.
Prior to his appointment at Ivanhoe Grammar School in 2015, Brendan was the Senior School Principal at Kristin School, Auckland for nine years. At Kristin, he led a number of initiatives including a robust achievement data strategy and data-driven curriculum reforms. Brendan also led a major change to the pastoral care framework by introducing a vertical based House system, an individualized model of academic mentoring and a model of student leadership that had a focus on authentic service.
Brendan is an experienced international educator having taught in New Zealand, Asia, and Australia. He is an outstanding classroom practitioner and is a former Head of Geography and Social Science. In addition to his roles at Ivanhoe Grammar and Kristin School, Brendan has had extensive senior leadership experience in other schools as Associate Principal, Acting Principal and Campus Principal.
A keen sportsman, Brendan has played and coached Football, Rugby and Cricket for many years. He is a husband and a father, and draws great strength and support from his family. His experience has helped him to understand well the Independent School context, particularly as it relates to schools with a Christian ethos.
Brendan is excited about coming to St Peter’s and will take up his role in Term 3.
