Mō Te Tūnga | About The Role
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? As our Assistant Boarding House Manager, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring Queen Margaret House runs smoothly and our boarders receive excellent pastoral care. Your main goals will be to ensure the wellbeing and safety of our boarders and assist with the day-to-day operations of the boarding house.
Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako | Skills & Experience
You’ll partner with the Boarding House Manager to keep our boarders safe and secure, always following our security policies and procedures. You’ll be the bridge between the Boarding House Manager, boarding community, boarders, and parents, keeping everyone informed about important incidents and updates. Championing the physical, emotional, and mental health of our boarders, you’ll promote a healthy lifestyle and work with other wellbeing support providers as needed. You’ll help foster a culture of responsibility, empathy, and respect within our boarding house.
Offering guidance and support for social, emotional, or behavioural issues, you’ll participate in group meetings when necessary. You’ll welcome new boarders and their parents, ensuring they feel supported and transition smoothly into our community. Overseeing mealtimes and prep sessions, you’ll manage the administration and recording of medication. Celebrating and respecting the cultural and personal traditions of our boarders, you’ll make sure everyone feels valued and included.
Administrative Duties:
Assist the Boarding House Manager with preparations and administration before each boarder’s arrival. Keep accurate records of boarders’ whereabouts, progress, health, and wellbeing, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and best practices.
Community Engagement:
Build strong relationships within the school community by supporting events, outings, and activities. Regularly review and enhance the events and activities our boarders participate in. Embody and promote the College’s ethos, vision, and behavioural expectations. Commit to continuous improvement and professional development.
Maintenance & General Responsibilities:
- Ensure the boarding house is well-maintained by coordinating with property management for repairs and replacements. Encourage boarders to take pride in their home and school facilities. Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Be able to live onsite while on duty, this position included overnight stays.
- Have a current first aid certificate.
- Have genuine interest in the wellbeing of teenage girls and an understanding of the challenges they currently face.
- Strong customer focus and empathy.
- Independence, initiative, and sound judgement.
- Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to relate well to teenage girls and respond effectively to their needs.
- Strong administration and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent computer literacy and organisational skills.
- Flexibility and the ability to prioritise multiple demands.
- Enthusiasm for learning and continuous improvement.
This position is based in Thorndon, Wellington and is a permanent role, full time during term time, with a start date of Term 1, 2025.
