About St Mark's School:
St Mark's School is an Anglican preschool and primary school strategically located in central Wellington, opposite the iconic Basin Reserve cricket ground. As Wellington Central's only independent school for both boys and girls, we provide exceptional education from preschool through to Year 8. With approximately 250 students, we offer an intimate and nurturing learning environment where every child is known and valued. Our school combines the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) with the New Zealand curriculum, fostering academic excellence within our special character context.
About the Role:
As Principal of St Mark's School, you will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to our school community.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring excellence in teaching and learning across both IB PYP and NZ curriculum
- Working alongside the Board of Trustees and the General Manager, on the development and implementation of the school's strategic plan.
- Maintaining and enhancing the school's special character
- Fostering positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community
- Ensuring compliance with educational requirements
- Leading professional development and continuous improvement initiatives for teaching staff
- Representing the school in the wider educational community
- Working effectively with the Board of Trustees and the school’s Senior Leadership Team
- Spending up to one day a week teaching (0.2 FTE).
About You:
We are looking for a person with the drive and commitment to ensure the best quality education is delivered to students and with the following attributes:
- Proven experience working as a Principal (3-5 years).
- A highly competent, registered teacher with current curriculum knowledge of the PYP programme and IB in general, as well as connection with the NZ curriculum.
- Higher level qualification in education.
- Experience managing staff including employment relations, pastoral support and performance management.
- Awareness of bicultural and multicultural issues in New Zealand.
