Rangi Ruru Girl’s School welcomes Tracy Herft

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School recently welcomed Tracy Herft as their new principal. Herft joins Rangi Ruru from Strathcona Girls Grammar in Melbourne, where she was Deputy Principal, and had previously held positions including Acting Principal, Head of Mathematics and Dean of Studies.

Rangi Ruru Board Chair Nicki Carter says “The Board is very excited to welcome Tracy to Rangi Ruru, as the 11th Principal since the school was founded in 1889. Tracy is a strong believer in the value of girls’ education and has a passion for professional development. The Board is very pleased with Tracy’s nuanced understanding of girls’ education along with the global and strategic perspective she will bring to Rangi Ruru.”

Herft, who has a BSc from Monash University and an MA from the University of Melbourne, is no stranger to New Zealand, having started her primary school education in Auckland where her father worked for several years. “I have fond memories of my time in New Zealand, and am very much looking forward to life in this beautiful country once again whilst continuing to build the strong legacy of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School.”

Herft takes over as Principal from Sandra Hastie, who left Rangi Ruru at the end of 2023 to become the Principal at Somerville House School in Brisbane.
