After an extensive national and international search, ACG Senior College is pleased to announce the appointment of Tracey Dykstra as Principal from 1 November.

Mrs Dykstra joins the school from Saint Kentigern College, one of New Zealand’s top private schools, where she has held the position of Head of Teaching and Learning on the school’s Senior Management team since 2010. Prior to that, she was Deputy Principal of Baradene College, a Catholic girls’ school in Auckland.

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School will next Monday, launch its first magazine written, edited and designed solely by its students.

Inspired by the school motto, Whaia to te Rangi (Wide Sky Shelter), the 144 page magazine is called SHELTER and takes the best of our student voice, reflecting the diverse thinking and content created by girls from all levels of the school.

A Japanese garden was officially dedicated this week in front of students from Yokohama Jogakuin and Rangi Ruru Girls’ School.

Timed to coincide with a sister school visit, Yokohama Jogakuin Principal Mr Hirama and Rangi Ruru Principal Dr Sandra Hastie cut a ribbon in front of the garden which recognises the close 23-year-old relationship between the two schools.

Dr Sandra Hastie says the garden is a beautiful and special place within the school.

Yokohama Jogakuin has a garden on their grounds which grows the Rangi Ruru rose (yellow in colour).

King’s College today announced the appointment of Reverend Warren William Watson as its new Senior Chaplain.

Rev Watson joins the College from Dilworth School, Remuera, where he has served as School Chaplain for more than ten years.  He replaces Reverend Warner Wilder who retires from the College in December after 28 years of dedicated service.

Kiwi face transplant surgeon Simon Talbot (and St Paul's Old Collegian) has lead his team in transplanting two donor arms to a retired marine who lost all four limbs in Afghanistan.

Dr Talbot, a 39-year-old reconstructive plastic surgeon, runs a hand transplant programme at Briham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where he has also participated in seven full and partial face transplants.

He and his team have done four bilateral hand transplants, so were "amassing a reasonable experience now" in that area.
