In this age of social networking, relationships are becoming increasingly important. The old saying, “it's not what you know but who you know” is evident on a daily basis. More than just contacts and opportunities, networks are becoming more about collaboration and the sharing of ideas. Two groups of Kristin students - K-Force Robotics and Forensics@Kristin - have recently experienced the power of creative networks when they were invited to participate in the recent IncrediblEdge summit in Auckland.

It's not often that the country's top judge finds herself in the firing line, but curious young students from Auckland's Diocesan School for Girls subjected Chief Justice Sian Elias to a surprisingly rigorous cross-examination when she visited the school recently for the launch of New Zealand's first school-based Centre for Ethics. Dame Sian, who is patron of the Centre for Ethics, fielded a range of spontaneous questions from a group of 10 to 11-year-old students when she dropped into their classroom to chat after the launch.

The success of some of New Zealand's finest young scholars was celebrated at the inaugural International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Top Scholars' Awards ceremony at Government House, Auckland, recently.  The 450 students who completed the IB Diploma in New Zealand last year represented less than 1% of the participants worldwide.  However, this small group has made its mark, producing impressive results in the demanding two-year programme.
